About AMP21™
Every distribution system manager knows that pole replacement is costly. A consistent program of inspection and re-treatment is a proactive strategy to extend pole life and defer the cost of replacement. AMP21™ is a non-toxic, Green alternative to ground line wraps and pastes. AMP21™ is ideal for the new approach to pole system maintenance in which inspection and treatment are done at the same time, significantly lowering the overall costs of system maintenance. Rarely would a second treatment crew need to visit the pole. Lower costs can help you stretch your maintenance budget and while reducing your use of hazardous materials. Your employees and contractors no longer need to be on customer property carrying hazardous materials.
Using AMP21™
AMP21™ is applied by inserting rods into the soil immediately adjacent to the wood at a rate of 1 rod for every 6" of wood circumference. This can be done when the area around the wood has been excavated, or more efficiently, by using a battery powered drill to make a hole next to the pole into which the rod is inserted. See the installation video for an example of how easily this is done. It is also possible to drive a guide rod into the soil near the wood, remove the guide rod and place the rod of AMP21™ in the hole that is left behind. Either way, installing AMP21™ is more efficient that using a painted-on preservative. Since it contains no hazardous materials there is no need for worker safety concerns or pesticide application licenses.
